Azerbaijan and Baku: A Geographic Orientation Before You Travel

The references consulted do not use a single regional framework: one places Azerbaijan in Western Asia, while another describes it as part of the Caucasus, between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. For planning purposes, it is useful to keep both references in mind without assuming that a continental boundary, on its own, settles questions about transport or itineraries. Azerbaijan has no open-sea coastline and is landlocked.

Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan and a clear starting point for looking up country-specific information. Knowing the city’s identity gives you a place to begin with local information, but it does not establish which connections are operating or how to reach other destinations. Before booking flights or transfers, check routes and services using current sources.

Azerbaijani and Russian are among the languages associated with the country in the available data. They are useful reference points when searching for information or preparing to communicate, but they do not tell you which language will be used in each service or situation. The currency is the Azerbaijani manat, symbol ₼; check current exchange rates and payment conditions before finalising your budget.

Geography and basic facts help you frame the next questions, but they do not provide current information about flights, entry requirements, transport, costs or visiting conditions. Check these details with official sources or directly with the relevant providers. For more introductory context, see Azerbaijan on the Map: Baku, Languages and Currency.
